[cloud] is very proud to be a member of GCC in the effort to make the art world more sustainable.

There is a movement in the arts for ‘creating an environmentally responsible art world.’ It’s called Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC). In their own words, GCC states:

Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sectorโ€™s environmental impacts.

GCCโ€™s primary goal is to facilitate a reduction of the sectorโ€™s CO2e emissions by a minimum of 50% by 2030, as well as promoting zero waste.

As a member, we have committed to reducing our CO2e emissions and to have zero waste. CO2e emissions are measurements in metric tonnes that calculate all global warming gases, (like methane), in terms of their equivalent measure in metric tonnes of carbon dioxide and the warming effect it has on the planet. Likewise, a commitment to zero waste means a reduction in plastics that cause harm to wildlife, create pollution, and destroy environments.

The arts community is not exempt from environmental impact, and it is important for us as an industry to take responsibility for the detriment we are causing the planet. Look for the GCC logo and the environmental statements of the art galleries and arts organisations that you work with to know they are committed to these same environmental measures. You can read our environmental statement here.

However, membership is not just for organisations. Individual artists can become members too. We encourage you to learn more from the GCC website and join us!
