Hosted by Cambridge Artworks and Artspace: 4 July, 6:30 to 7:30 pm GMT+1.
My former student, Mansi Souche, along with Clio Lloyd-Jacob of Cambridge Artwork and Artspace, is organising a series of events talking with South Asian artists and discussing their influence on British creativity. Mansi begins the series exploring South Asian artist, Vallari Harshwal, who will share the origins and inspiration behind her ceramics.
‘My work is an essence of my Indian heritage juxtaposed with my life in England. Conceptually, at one end I enjoy the visual aspect of illustrating moments of my life…At the other end is the need to mull, think, absorb to push the so called limitations of clay as a material to make objects and sculptural lights.’ (Vallari Harshwal)
For the first discussion, Artspace is delighted to welcome ceramicist and designer Vallari Hershwal, who has been creating tableware and homeware for 25 years first in India, more recently in the UK. She will be bringing some examples to see and handle.
Mansi Souche (artist and MA student at Cambridge School of Art) will be in conversation with Vallari on the themes and experiences in her work. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion with the artist and other participants.
If you’re in the Cambridge area, check it out.
