In this [c] Word presentation, Gemma will discuss the intersection between performance and the photographic image. Gemma will explain how every photograph is a performance. She will demonstrate how everyone is a performer. She will explain why no creative act or engagement with art is ever just instinctive.
Dr Gemma Marmalade is a British artist and academic in the transformative potential of creative performativity through subversive social contexts. Having studied Photography in the UK at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, Gemma completed her PhD in Fine Art at the Cambridge School of Art, examined by seminal performance artist, Nigel Rolfe. Gemma is a senior academic and leader in Photography at the University of Derby, UK, and Visiting Professor for the Creative Industries in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.


Through her work, she explores egalitarian and radical approaches to emancipating contemporary artist practices through collaboration. With extensive experience in Higher Education and research, inter- and trans-disciplinary practices, management, curatorship, and writing within the arts globally, Gemma is a powerhouse of cultural contribution and social change-making.
