Anna will discuss how her global influences inform her practice, particularly through the reuse of materials, a sensitivity to different cultural contexts, and an interest in connecting to wider, more dispersed audiences.
Reflecting on periods of stepping back from making, and how drawing, sketching, and ongoing visual thinking remain active parts of her process during those times. The talk considers how ideas develop across distance and pause, and how material and conceptual threads continue to evolve outside of finished works.
Anna Dermitzaki (she/her) is an artist based in Cornwall and occasionally Cambridge, UK, working across multimedia installation, sculpture, and material-led processes. Her practice is rooted in repurposing and transformation, drawing on a wide range of techniques and materials to create immersive environments that explore memory, place, and belonging.
Growing up as a Third Culture Kid has profoundly shaped her approach to making. Navigating multiple cultural identities and shifting notions of home has led her to explore states of transition, fluidity, and connection. Through experimental dialogues between materials, objects, and space, her work examines nature as a fluid condition between inner and outer worlds, where personal experience intersects with broader ecological and emotional landscapes.
In her current practice and ongoing research, Anna is particularly interested in how presence and absence operate within installation. Her work considers how material encounters can hold emotional resonance beyond the physical object, creating experiences that linger in memory and perception.
