Jane is reviewing the whole of her artistic output, and in the process she is considering her use of the term ‘painterly photography,’ which she has frequently used to describe her photographs. She is certain what she means by this term is not what the conventional notion of this genre means! For her, ‘painterly photography’ involves more than lighting tricks. It is an image-making strategy that underpins aesthetic thinking.
