Thames Run Source to Sea Installation ยฉ2026 Veronique Chance

Over the last 15 years, Dr Veronique Chance has developed an endurance running art practice as part of a larger inquiry into the performative nature of human physical activity. The runs she undertakes tend to be solitary endeavours that take place along pre-planned routes.ย ย Using mobile phone technology, specifically GPS tracking apps and social media, Veronique shares her journey with a live audience through live-streamed photographs and videos of her viewpoint and location.

Veronique aligns this work to performance art practices through the ways in which the limits of her body are tested through the physical demands of long-distance running, whileย she also โ€˜testsโ€™ the limits of technology through the ways in which her experience is communicated with others. Important in this are the dynamics between live performance, documentation, and an embodied sense of place. This research and Veronique’s art practice is linked to a growing number of artists who are engaging with running as a mode of enquiry and creative expression.

In this talk, Veronique will outline key research questions thatย underpin her art-practice, highlighting artworks that have been significant to its development. Tickets are available now through our [cloud] Shop. Join us on Tuesday, 7 April at 5:30pm UK-time.
