A collage of various perspectives in an art gallery setting, featuring people interacting, tables with artworks, and a bright skylight.

For this talk Robert will share his experiences of navigating the art world, and will discuss a range of different approaches that he has used to create opportunities and stay afloat. Particular examples will include: crowdfunding ‘A New Dictionary of Art’ all the way to the Tate Modern; an Arts Council England grant to visit Silicon Valley, USA; and a residency in the remote Northumberland Pennines to study the night sky.

Robert is a Cambridge-based artist working with text, systems, and digital culture. His practice explores how language produces meaning, particularly within technological and informational frameworks such as search engines, datasets, and online platforms. Working across installation, print, and digital media, he often uses found or generated text to examine the limits and instability of communication.

He is the founder of Art Language Location, a collaborative project exploring the relationship between art, text, and place. His work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally. He is currently building a series of large plywood structures and preparing new material for the forthcoming Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE) in June.
